Carlos Alcaraz began his path at the Cincinnati Open, but his 2nd round match against Gael Monfils was interrupted in the middle of the tie break of the second set.
The Spaniard had won the first set 6-4, while the experienced Frenchman led the tie-break 6-6 (3-1). The Spaniard, fresh from the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, will have only one tournament of preparation on the American hard courts before the last Slam of the season at the US Open.

"The truth is that these have been incredible months in my life and in my career, having won Roland Garros, a tournament that I really wanted to win. Wimbledon, which of course is always wonderful to be able to win. And one of my dreams was to win a medal at the Olympics. And the truth is that in these months I have played these events giving my all, they have been incredible, I have really enjoyed them.
I am also very happy with how I played, with how I faced situations. I think I have grown a lot as a player. And the truth is that I am super happy. Obviously for us tennis players the season is not over. We have to continue at the foot of the canyon, we have to give our all in every tournament and at every moment. But, of course, these have been months that I will remember for the rest of my life."

Carlitos then explained what he did after the Olympics: "I rested for almost a week and it was great. I went to Mallorca with my brother and some friends. I didn't want to think about anything else other than enjoying the time there, so that I could come back rested and be here with my mind at 100%. I had great results, played important matches at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and it affected me physically. I had some little pains that I had to take care of, and for that I needed more days to recover," he added on the tournament's media day.
