Emma Raducanu, Belinda Bencic make expected decision after recent developments

Emma Raducanu and Belinda Bencic have made expected decisions and withdrawn from the MGM Macau Tennis Masters. Raducanu, who underwent three surgeries in May, recently suffered a setback in the wrist area. On the other side, Bencic announced she was pregnant earlier this month. As a result, Raducanu and Bencic won't be clashing against each other in an exhibition match in Macau on December 2nd. Following the withdrawal of Raducanu and Bencic, the Macau organizers announced Daria Kasatkina and Xinyu Wang for the tournament.

Now that Raducanu is officially out of Macau, the earliest we could see the Briton play after surgeries on each wrists and her right ankle is January. "I will be coming back with a lower ranking but I'm looking forward to starting again, resetting. I still have new goals, new things I want to achieve but I've still got 15 years in my career so there is no rush. Throughout my career I've had setbacks. I take most of my inspiration from books, I read a lot, I read Chinese history about the different dynasties," Raducanu told BBC Radio 4's Today programme in October. Raducanu maybe hasn't played in a while but she is in good spirits as she is optimistic that his decision will pay off in the long-term. "It was difficult to train after the surgeries, so it was very sedentary in the beginning. Through the whole period, I’ve been doing a lot off court, reading a lot and watching some tennis. Mentally, I feel like I’m in a better place to compete now than I ever have been before since the US Open. I’m hoping to get back on board for next season. I know it’s going to be difficult when you haven’t competed for a long time, like almost a year. It’s going to probably take me some tournaments to get up to speed. But, once I do, I think I’m in a better headspace to compete now," Raducanu told Laura Robson during a recent interview for Amazon Prime.
