Nick Kyrgios recounts Rafael Nadal's 'epic' US Open shot versus Marin Cilic

Nick Kyrgios has recounted Rafael Nadal's "epic" around-the-net shot against Marin Cilic, which left golf icon Tiger Woods hyped up in the stands. In 2019, Nadal took on Cilic in the US Open round-of-16. In what was the last game of the match, Cilic hit a cross-court volley, which Nadal miraculously ran down moments before delivering a stunning across-the-net shot to win the point. Nadal went up by a match point and then sealed a 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-2 win. Kyrgios shared a video of Nadal's shot to his Instagram Story and used the word "epic" as his caption.

Kyrgios' anecdote about the 2019 Wimbledon match against Nadal

In 2019, Kyrgios clashed against Nadal in the Wimbledon second round. Although Kyrgios didn't play bad, Nadal still escaped with a 6-3 3-6 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3) win. Recently, Kyrgios told an anecdote from that Wimbledon match. "There were nights when I was… I was in a pub till 4 am before I played Rafa at Wimbledon one year. My old agent had to drag me out of the pub. But the first time I beat Federer was probably the most memorable. I lost in a tough four-set battle. But yeah, I feel like getting some sleep at 11 pm wouldn’t have hurt,” Kyrgios recently said on the Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson podcast. Kyrgios, 28, has had nine matches against Nadal. Versus Nadal, Kyrgios has had some solid success as three times he has managed to beat the 22-time Grand Slam champion. “I matched up really well against Nadal. I had the most success against him, but he’s still beaten me a lot of times," Kyrgios said on the podcast. Last year, Kyrgios and Nadal were scheduled to meet in the Wimbledon semifinal. Unfortunately, Nadal picked up an abdominal injury a match earlier and wasn't able to play their semifinal match.
