Serena Williams' ex-coach tells struggling Coco Gauff to 'get ouf of comfort zone'

Serena Williams' childhood coach Rick Macci thinks Coco Gauff needs to "get out of the comfort zone" and give a shot to "science-based" options.
Over the last few years, the American tennis star has had some rough periods on a few occasions. She has been going through one since February as she is only 4/4 in her last four tournaments played.
When Gauff is struggling, she usually starts having major troubles with her serve. And it is not hard to guess that her serve hasn't been looking well lately.
Last year, the 2023 US Open champion hit a total of 430 double faults. During an Indian Wells match last month against Moyuka Uchijima, she blasted a stunning 21 double faults but still escaped with a three-set win.
For some time, Macci - who played a big part in the early development of the Williams sisters - has been insisting that Gauff should seek help from a biomechanics coach to help her correct her serve and forehand techniques.
Macci to Gauff: Get out of the comfort zone"The best way for Coco to visit the END ZONE more often is (to) get out of her COMFORT ZONE. If you just try to RENT IT NOW with the proper science-based technical adaptations you can OWN IT LATER. Unlimited upside for the best pure athlete on tour," the 70-year-old coach wrote on X.

In late 2024, Gauff called time on her partnership with coach Brad Gilbert and hired Matt Daly. During the Sunshine Double, the 21-year-old tried to downplay her recent results by insisting that the situation wasn't as alarming as it may look.
Also, Gauff noted several times that she was working on making some changes and adjustments to her game but that it wasn't easy doing so on the go.
