Alert: Tiafoe returns to U.S. Open semis following Dimitrov retirement

American Frances Tiafoe, the No 20 seed, reached semi-finals of the US Open when Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 9 seed, retired at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday night. Tiafoe led 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-1 when Dimitrov called it quits. The American will play compatriot Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, for a spot in the championship match.
