Iga Swiatek “needs a different pair of eyes” and a different approach if she is to take her game to the next level with tennis analyst Barbara Schett saying she hasn’t really developed her game in the last few years.
World No 1 Swiatek surprised the tennis community this week when she announced that she has parted ways with Tomasz Wiktorowsk after three successful years together.
During their time together, Swiatek won three French Open titles, 16 WTA Tour singles titles and also spent 123 weeks at No 1 in the WTA Rankings.
The 23-year-old opted to skip the Wuhan Open on the back of the announcement and added that the search for a new coach is well underway, stating: “I’m in the middle of first talks with coaches from abroad (non-Polish) because I’m ready to take the next step of my career. I will let you know when I make a decision.”
Eurosport analyst Schett has applauded the Pole’s decision to make a change to her team as she feels Swiatek’s game was “one-dimensional” on grass and hard courts this year.
The five-time Grand Slam winner once again dominated on clay as she won three titles on the surface as she lifted trophies at the Madrid Open, Italian Open and French Open, but lost in the third round at Wimbledon and the quarter-final of the US Open.

Swiatek, though, has won two titles on hard courts this year as she won the Qatar Open and Indian Wells Open.
But she hasn’t played since her last-four exit at Flushing Meadows as she withdrew from both WTA 1000 events in China.
“Iga Swiatek might be No 1 in the world, [but] she still wants to develop her game outside of clay, [for example] on grass and hard,” Schett told Eurosport. “Let’s face it, it hasn't really happened in the last year or two.
“She is looking for something different; an outside look, because at this level every percentage counts.
“I am not surprised she is searching for somebody from abroad and not from Poland. She needs a different pair of eyes and different stimulations. I was really disappointed with the way she played at Wimbledon and at the US Open, where she was so one-dimensional and could not adjust tactically.
“She was going for it but not really seeking solutions. She definitely can develop her game even more and learn when to pull back and when to go for it.”
