Jannik Sinner has followed in the footsteps of three tennis legend by reaching yet another stellar statistical milestone at the 2024 ATP Finals.
The world No 1 has continued his remarkable 2024 campaign by winning all three of his round robin matches in Turin without dropping a set.
Sinner did not lose more than four games in the six sets he played, while he dropped serve only twice.
Following wins over Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, Sinner’s 6-3, 6-4 triumph against Daniil Medvedev in his third match ensured he finished top of the John Newcombe group.
The Italian, who was a runner-up at the 2023 ATP Finals, revealed he has a different feeling compared to when he reached the semi-finals at last year’s edition of the event.
“Yeah, of course. I mean, it’s always a different feeling. It doesn’t really matter how you arrive to a tournament or not. It’s nice to be again in the semis here,” Sinner told the media after beating Medvedev.
“It’s different year, different player. Like everyone else, we try. I believe all of us, we have improved a lot in one year. It’s nice to be again in this positions where I can play again for a final’s spot. Then we see how it goes.”

Daniil Medvedev makes stunning Jannik Sinner 'Big 4' claim after ATP Finals defeat
Carlos Alcaraz hailed for having a 'deeper level of talent' than Jannik Sinner by former player
Sinner’s victory against Medvedev, the world No 4, was his 10th win against a player in the top five of the ATP Rankings this season.
Having also registered 10 wins against top five opponents in 2023, Sinner has become just the fourth player to achieve this in consecutive seasons since the ATP Rankings were introduced in 1973.
The other men to earn 10 or more wins against players ranked in the top five in successive years are Bjorn Borg (1979-80), Ivan Lendl (1985-86) and Novak Djokovic (2011-12).
Five of Sinner’s top five wins this year have been against Medvedev, while he recorded two against Djokovic, and one versus each of Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz.
Four of Sinner’s six defeats this season have been against top five players, which gives him a 10-4 record against such opponents.
The 23-year-old will face world No 7 Casper Ruud in the semi-finals in Turin, while he could meet either second-ranked Zverev or fifth-raked Fritz in Sunday’s final.
Asked what has made him so good this week after his dominance in the round robin stage, Sinner said: "I don't know. I'm here, I know what I've achieved this year. I try to step on court with a good mindset.
“I have a great team behind me. I have beautiful people around me who support me daily, which for me is even more important. Tennis-wise, I just try to enjoy it here at least while I'm on the court.
“When I'm off the court, I try to prepare in the best possible way for every match. The atmosphere is amazing. I'm just trying to play some good tennis."
