- Johannus Monday claims title in Texas
- Brit was fifth seed
HARLINGEN, TEXAS, USA – Johannus Monday entered the ITF event and was the fifth seed. The Brit dominated the final, losing only one game.
Brit of the Week
Johannus Monday entered the ITF event in Texas and was the fifth seed. In the first round the Brit was against Ryan Dickerson. The Brit got an early break of serve in the first set to take the lead. In the second set the American fought back, breaking the serve of the seed to level up the match. The final set saw Monday dominate Dickerson and move into the next round 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
The second round saw the Brit against Mexican Alan Magadan. The first set was close, as Magadan stayed with the seed. Eventually, Monday broke serve and took the lead. The second set was much easier for the Brit. The Mexican struggled as Monday dominated. The seed eased into the next round 6-4, 6-1.
In the quarter-final Monday was against third seed Garret Johns. The American stayed with the Brit to begin with, before the fifth seed broke serve and took the lead. This seemed to break the American as the second set was dominated by Monday who eased into the next round 6-4, 6-1.
The semi-final saw the Brit against wildcard Aidan Kim. The American played very well and managed to stay with the seed at the start of the set. Eventually, Monday was able to break serve and take the lead. The second set was more of the same. Kim tried to stay with the seed, but Monday was able to break serve and move into the next round 6-4, 6-4.
In the final Monday was against qualifier Tadeas Parolek. The Brit dominated from the outset. In the first set Monday barely put a foot wrong and broke at will. Parolek could not stay with the pace. The second set saw the qualifier get on the board. However, it was no where near enough, as Monday continued to dominate and lift the title for the loss of one game 6-0, 6-1.
