Serena Williams details shocking surgery she suffered in the last hour

In the end there was a happy ending, Serena Williams, through a video on Tik Tok, told a truly incredible story, directly from the hospital bed where she was hospitalized due to a delicate surgery she underwent in the last hours.

The American legend had to remove a branchial cyst, which, as Serena herself said, was the size of a grapefruit.

"In May I felt a lump on my neck. I went to the doctor for an MRI and was told it was a branchial cyst. They said there was no need to remove it if I didn't want to. So I didn't, but it continued to grow," she explained.

Williams then revealed what happened in the last moments before the decision to undergo surgery, analyzing: "After a biopsy everything came back negative, but the doctors recommended removing it as soon as possible because it was the size of a small grapefruit and could get infected or, even worse, come out."

A surgery that fortunately went well, but that could have brought very different consequences for the former American tennis legend, who reassured everyone about her condition: "I feel so grateful and lucky that everything went well and above all that I am healthy. Now everything is fine."

In recent months, the winner of 23 Slams spoke in an interview with ET that she has always lived in the spotlight and that only now is she trying to understand who is really away from the court.

"Now I'm trying to figure out who I really am away from the cameras. I've been in the spotlight 24/7 for 27 years. It's different now, but it's time to figure out how all of this has affected me. Most people only see the Grand Slam wins, the finals, but they don't see the training and everything that goes into it. All that intensity that I've always put on the court is now directed at my daughters," she revaeld.
